Time to get caught up on a book or two while waiting in line. Hey, how about getting caught up with all the awesome 10MTN articles!
Word on the European Union streets is the Entry-Exit System, or EES, is going full monty beginning this Friday, April 10, 2026. What does this mean for you, our dearest readers (all three of you)? Long *BLEEPing* lines. Well, that’s the assumption.
10MTN Priority Pass
- The “One-Time” Toll: Time to show your goods for your first EU entry after April 10 (photo + 4 fingerprints). Once you’re in the database, your digital profile is good for three years, making future trips much faster.
- The Age of Exemption: Traveling with kids? Children under 12 do not have to give fingerprints, though they still have to “smile for the camera” for a facial scan.
- The 90-Day Math Teacher: There’s no more arguing with a blurry ink stamp. The EES is a cold, hard calculator that tracks your 90 days in a 180-day period across 29 countries. If you overstay, the system flags you automatically.
- The “Safety Valve” Clause: If lines get truly apocalyptic, border guards have a 90-day “flexibility” window to pause the biometric collection and revert to old-school passport checks to keep the airport from grinding to a halt.
- App Before You Nap: Download the official “Travel to Europe” app (keep reading for app links). You can upload your passport info and photo up to 72 hours before arrival. You still have to hit the kiosk, but it cuts down the “data entry” time significantly.
So What’s The Big Deal?
Say bye-bye to physical passport stamps. You’ll be digitally “verified” for entry if you’re not an EU citizen. You will be physically scanned — smile for the camera and get those fingers ready. Oh, and for THIS, there’s no fee (just a bit of your biometrics). So don’t fall for any scams saying you need to pay up. You will have to pay a fee when the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is fully implemented but we’ll talk more about that in a future article.
Not willing to be assimilated free with your personal biometrics? No entry. Nope. Buh-bye. You may want to take a look to see how your data will be used and kept. Good to know your rights and that they are not selling your mug on the black market. (For the record: they claim it’s deleted after three to five years.)
Wait. No Really Be Prepared.
If you’re traveling to Europeland anytime soon, get educated. Those of us in the travel industry have been notified to let clients know that there may be glitches, downtime, oopsies, sacre-bleu-s, and total meltdowns—but most of all, lines—while they figure this ‘S’ out.
Our sources tell 10MTN that although lines may be inevitable, the EU powers that be have given border control management some leeway. If queues get outrageous, they have the “flexibility” to verify passports the old-fashioned way, at least for the first 90 days of EES implementation. So, if you’re lucky, you might get through the old way—but don’t count on it.
You Made It To The End. Here’s The App Links.
- The EU has released an official mobile app called “Travel to Europe.” * The Good News: You can pre-register your passport data and some travel info up to 72 hours before you arrive.
So, there you have it. The EES is ALMOST officially live, your fingerprints are now property of Brussels, and your passport remains as clean as a whistle. May your e-readers be fully charged and your ‘ay dios mio’ moments be few. See you in the terminal! Safe travels.
